Hello all,

My husband and I have filed outland for permanent residence. I am American and he is Canadian. So far we have gotten through the first stage and are waiting for the second (we are guessing we will hear from them somewhere in March or April but who knows). I have been visiting him here in Canada now but my visitors visa will expire in a month so we are hoping to get it extended since we will probably be hearing from the final stage very soon-- we really don't want to be separated again.

I was just about to apply online but I'm a bit confused and skeptical as to how I should answer some of those questions. First of all it asks if I have ever applied for anything with CIC and thus have an UCI number. The only UCI number we have is the one from stage one but as far as what the letter states it's not *my* UCI it's my husbands. So I clicked no and proceeded but then I had to fill in a questioner to asses my eligibility to apply online.

One of the questions is: What would you like to do in Canada?

and the choices are: Study, Visit, Move there, Work, and Transit Only.

Technically I want to move there to be with my husband once our PR application goes through, but I'm visiting him in the meantime. I'm afraid chosing "move there" will have them say "you cannot apply for this online" and then reffer me to the PR application process, but then when I click "visit" the next question asks "How long are you plannig to stay in Canada?" and the options are: Temporarily less than 6 months, temporarily more than 6 months, and permanently.

Again, I am not sure how to answer this because I'm hoping I could extend my visit long enough so that we can get that final reply and then "flagpole" or I'm not sure what you call it. So that may mean "permanently" but I think that would also lead them to reffering me to a PR application.

I've read that many people here have done similar so I would like to hopefully hear from them, and hopefully not mess up my application for an extension.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!

My friend has the same situation as yours, but they decided to let her husband go home and wait for the visa than staying inside Canada and make things more complicated. She told me that they also had a hard time filling up the application for extension as some of the questions, like with what you mentioned were too complicated.

By the way, her husband was in Canada from October 2012 to mid-January2013 only. The husband is now back home, and just got his PPR just this week (Feb 5th). He will submit his passport once the additonal requirements is completed. He is looking at landing in Canada by end April or early May.

Just thought of sharing.. the decision is yours. :) Goodluck!

Thank you for sharing Blessedelaine, we are contemplating on that too. When did her husband apply for PR and from which office?

My husband and her husband applied almost the same time.. Submitted in June, Sponsor approval in August and PPR recently. We are from Manila, Philippines :)

My friend got married back home in December and gave birth last September. They initially applied for tourist visa as she is giving birth, she wants her husband by her side during her time of delivery. But her husband's tourist visa got denied at first as they saw he has pending spouse sponsorship application.

Few weeks later (when she already gave birth) they received a call asking if they are still interested for the visit visa.. the VISA office has now considering their application as they notice the ultrasound of the baby and the doctor's report regarding her pregnancy and the due date was indicated there.

So ofcourse, they said yes! The reason why he booked his ticket right away and stay here from Oct to January. :)

I think you should choose the "easiest" way - so for the current extension, you are here to visit, and then choose "temporarily more than 6 months". WHen asked for how long, state for example 9 months, if your VO is 12 months for now, and you have already been waiting for 3. WHen asked why you want to stay - just put that you are waiting for your PR and include a copy of first stage approval to prove it.

you're not asking to stay permanently on a tourist visa. You're asking for a temporary extension of your current visa, and then the PR will come and you can flagpole!
then it should be no problem!
good luck,
Sweden

That's sad they didn't notice before. =/ Sometimes I really don't understand why they make it so long and difficult to be with your loved ones.

Sweden, thank you for your advice! Have you done this before?
