Hi,

I am currently visiting my uncle and family in Canada(Toronto) on a Visitor Visa. I really like the place and I got interested in perusing my future studies in Canada which can later lead me to work permit and then PR.

I am interested in getting a Study Permit and need some assistance going forward with this process.

Background on me
1. Came on a Visitor Visa in October 2013
2. Current Visitor Visa is valid through to November 2016(approx. 3years)
3. Passport Valid till 2017
4. I have recently completed Bachelor in Computer Science with Double Major in Software Engineering & Information Technology(June 2013) from a well renowned university in Pakistan.
5. I am sure I can easily enroll in a Post Graduate Diploma because of my past education Master's may be difficult due to tough criteria.
7. I have a valid 5 years US Visit Visa as well which expires in 2017.
8. I am a Pakistani Citizen

I am unclear about what application process Im allowed to follow and all of them seem to have different processing timelines.
Im aware that being on a Temporary Resident Visa which is Valid for more then 6 months I can apply from within Canada or
Apply outside Canada from USA or Pakistan for a study permit.

1. Should I get into a Post Graduate Diploma or a Masters Program which can lead me to Work Permit later and getting a Study permit successfully for now? But I need to consider the expense and job opportunity in mind.
2. Which Courses or type of study I should go for which can help with job. I have an IT background in Bachelor but I want to take marketing or business studies in future(marketing of post graduate diploma).
3. Suggest the Institutes?
4. Can I directly get a work permit while being a visitor?
5. Should I go back to Pakistan/USA and Apply or Apply from within Canada for a study permit?
6. Can a 1 year Post Graduate Diploma help me get work permit?
7. Any post graduate diploma whose duration is around 6 months as I can take it even without a study permit and which can lead me to a work permit directly?

Kindly also give me other useful details which can be of help in my case? I shall be extremely thankful.

I'll help you with a few questions.

If you want to work now (without studying in Canada), then you will need to first find an employer who is willing to offer you a job and then that employer must obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion. Then you will be able to apply for a work permit. To be approved for a work permit, you must demonstrate that you have tied to your home country and have no plans to stay longer than the duration of your visa. It is typically better to apply from your home country rather than Canada.

If you complete a course of at least 8 months in Canada, then you will be granted a post graduate work permit (as long as you attend a qualifying school). If you complete 8 months of study - you will be granted an 8 month work permit. If you complete only six months of studies in Canada, you will not recieve a work permit. To be approved for a study permit, you must also demonstrate strong ties to your home country and consequently it is better to apply from outside of Canada (this increases your chances of being approved).

Hey thanks for your reply.

For finding a job where should I start searching?
Secondly can u please tell me after i get the 8 months work permit after doing a PGD can I apply for PR?

Also can you name some institutes around toronto/missisaug/milton which fall in the list who can help support my case for study permit? and later for work permit?
What qualification is in demand whichhas better chances of getting work? I have an IT background from Bachelor's and wants to study marketing or project management or anything else which can be useful.

If you want to find a job, try reputable job sites such as monster.ca, workopolis and the Canadian Job Bank.

Most students apply for PR through the Canadian Experience Class program. To qualify, you need at least one year of full time work in a skilled job after you graduate. So an 8 months course and work permit won't be enough. You should take a 2 year course which will give you a 3 year work permit. This will give you the highest chances of qualifying for PR.

It's up to you to apply for a study permit and work permit. Schools won't really help you with this process.
