Visitor Visa stuck at background check since six months

Hi everyone,


I submitted my Canadian visitor visa (TRV) application from Michigan in early January 2025 and completed biometrics soon after. Six months later, the status still reads “Background check in progress.”


I’m an international student in the U.S. with several months left in my program and was planning a vacation to Canada with friends. I’ve called IRCC twice; both times the agent added notes to my file, but there’s been no movement since.


Has anyone else faced a delay like this? Are there effective ways to follow up or speed things up?


Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated—thanks!

I am a Pakistani and I have lived in several countries in Europe

So background may take a long time because IRCC has to wait for immigration/security checks from those countries.

Plus Pakistan. Depends on what countries. That is the question for those countries in providing Canada with that information. Order GCMS notes and see if there is more information.
