Hello,

My mother's 6 months visa is set to expire on the first week of September but she currently has a 5 yr visitor visa which is set to expire on December 31st, 2013. Is it possible to renew the visa by crossing the border to USA just a day before her 6 month's visa expires and stay there for a week and come back to Toronto to get the renewal for 3 more months until her 5 yrs visa expires at the end of this year?
Please let me know. Thanks

Why don't you just have her apply for an extension of her visitor status? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend/visa.asp

It is too late to apply for extension now because they need at least 30 days in advance for extension. Do you think that they will renew her visa at the border crossing ??

They will given her implied status until the visa has been renewed or rejected with a date that she has to leave by. As long as you apply before the current visa expires you are fine. They PREFER it if you apply 30 days before the visa expires.
