Hi, I’m a Filipino citizen living in Manila. First of all, I would like to let you know that I have a French boyfriend living in Canada in Montreal, to be exact. He has a work permit visa for 2 years starting in June of 2017,with an employee contract with a Canadian company since.

We have been in a long distance relationship for almost 2 years. We already met twice. Once in April 2017 and a second time in December 2017.

This time, have decided that it's my turn to come and visit him in Canada for the first time. So, we proceed to applying for a visitor visa (temporary resident visa) from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada website.

I just wanna ask some questions regarding my visa application being denied.

I filed it at the middle of this month and have already bought a round trip ticket for one month of vacation in Canada. I also submitted all the required documents like bank statements, letter of invitation from my boyfriend who is currently staying in Canada etc.

I was confident that I have completed all the listed requirements and tried to meet the amount of budget needed for my whole stay, but unfortunately, the reason they stated was: I did not meet their expectations to convince them that I am eligible for a one month stay in Canada due to lack of financial stability.

So, my questions are; How can I prove that I have all the means and budget for my whole stay and; Can I still submit another application in the same month and year of the previous one?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions you could offer :)

You can certainly apply again. Getting a TRV approved in your situation will likely be very difficult given you are single. CIC will likely have concerns that you may have plans on remaining in Canada long term. In the future, do not buy a plane ticket until after you have an approved visa. You'll need to answer several questions in order for us to be able to help you further.

What evidence of ties to your home country did you show and exactly what kind of proof did you supply? Did you show employment, property ownership, other assets? How much money did you show you had available to pay for your trip? Have you previously traveled to countries requiring visas such as the US or UK? What did you say was the purpose of your trip and what did your boyfriend say in the invitation letter?

Thank you for your answer :)

It wasn't my intention to have plans on remaining in Canada long term when I applied for the TRV. My only plan is to go to him and spend vacation.
But maybe, we didn't have enough proof to show that.

About flight tickets, unfortunately, they asked for it as a requirement to have a round trip flight tickets. Do you know a way on how to apply without them?

As for the evidence of ties to my home country, I submitted a copy of my passport, bank statements from my savings account and certification of employment. I even included Leave of Absence form as well as the family and personal information forms.

At the moment, I don't have any property (or assets), but in a way, I'm sharing the payment and title for a house and lot property with my siblings. Should I show them that?

I think the biggest reason that my TRV was denied is because of how much money I showed. I just declared $1000 as a budget for my one-month trip. I'm thinking of declaring a higher amount. Maybe $2500?

Unfortunately, I haven't travelled to countries requiring visas such as the US or UK for now.

The purpose of my trip was indicated in the invitation letter from my boyfriend. So I can show main sentences from the invitation letter below :

I, (boyfriend's name and firstname), a French citizen, inviting Miss (myself), currently living at (home address) and was born on (datebirth) in Manila (Philippines), to visit me from July 27th 2018 to August 28, 2018. Miss (myself) and I have been in a long distance relationship for one year and eight months since 11/10/2016.

The purpose of this trip is for us to spend time together in Montreal and for her to explore and learn more about historical and cultural differences during her month-long vacation. Miss (myself) will stay with me for the duration of her vacation. We will visit all around in Montreal. We might visit some different national parks around Quebec region (Mont-Tremblant, Mauricie or Mastigouche). We also plan on visiting Quebec City.

At the same time, I undertake to pay for all the expenses she could encourage, until her trip back to the Philippines.

She is a Content Specialist and researcher in Data Preparation under indefinite contract for (company name), since June of 2016.

Please find attached an electric bill showing my residence and a copy of my work permit.

Should you have any questions regarding this letter, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sincerely,

I think we didn't mention that we have future plans after this trip. And also mention that I wanna go back to my country for my future house with my family and because of my job too.

One more thing, should my boyfriend show his bank statement too so he can prove that he has the means to support me while on vacation? Thank you and I hope to hear from you again, soon.

I hope I was able to answer all your questions :)

Well, you’re correct about the finances. The unwritten rule is $1000/wk per person. Your bf finances are going to be secondary (there is no way for IRCC to force him to pay for anything). The other issue will be the duration of stay (1 month with no previous travel to visa required countries is too long) and the generality of you plans. You should have a specific itinerary. Having mentioned The long distance relationship in your original application has probably worked against you and IRCC will assume you have alternate intentions than just visiting.
There is no need to purchase airline tickets....only an itinerary would be sufficient.

Thank you for your answer :)

I really appreciate that you replied to all my questions. So from what you said, I have more questions. Now, I think I am more prepared to reapply for TRV and I wanna give myself all the chance to get the visa.

So for one month, I need like 4000$ on my bank account right? Won't it be suspicious if I can have this amount in one week from my savings and from my boyfriend? Do you think it is better to change the duration of stay or put more money to still have a TRV for one month?

Why do you think the generality of my plans aren't good? Should I mention more details for itinerary? I thought I already did in the invitation letter written by my boyfriend.

Yes we are in a long distance relationship but I don't have alternate intentions because I thought with paying round trip flight tickets will reassure them that I will go back to my country.

Ok so we don't have to buy flight tickets before applying for the TRV? So if I should mention an itinerary, it would be like for example :
1 week at Montreal with mentionning date I guess?
1 day at Quebec city
2 days at Mont-Tremblant park
Etc...

Will these details pass as an itinerary?

Thank you again :)
