Good Day Forum Folks,

Not sure if my situation is unique, or all that unusual but here goes. I recently married the love of my life, my Filipino fiance. We met while I was working overseas in Doha, Qatar. While she worked in Doha we dated, and later I visited the Philippines where she returned to after her Qatar work VISA expired. We got engaged around the Easter 2014 Break, and recently married (Oct 14, 2014). She will be joining me here in Doha, Qatar where I work for a Canadian College. I am still a Canadian Resident, with a home and property back in Canada. We will begin the spousal sponsorship process soon, and know that this may take 12-24 months.

Ok, so the details are now known. Here is what we are wondering.

Is it possible for us/her to get a VISITOR/Tourist VISA so that we can visit my family in Canada? We want to come to Canada for the Christmas break, but not sure of how we are going to do that knowing that the spousal sponsorship process will have only just started. Also we had a beautiful wedding, and reception in the Philippines back in October and want to do a similar reception in Canada - but we need to get in. I'm not going to be going back to Canada until my wife can join me. HELP!

Your situation is fairly typically. Yes - it's certainly possible to apply for a visitor visa. Unfortunately it's impossible for any of us to say if it will be approved. Since you are Canadian CIC may very well be concerned that your wife has plans to remain in Canada long term and refuse the visa (this happens quite often when the spouse is Canadian). To have the highest chances of approval, your wife will need to show very strong proof that she has ties to the country where she is residing and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. Good luck.

hey there,

Its good to take chances but being a spouse of a canadian citizen has a slim chance of getting a TRV, that's a red flag to CIC. even though its a plus that she had travelled outside philippines, you still have to prove your spouse's ties to the philippines ( employment, assets, travel funds ) you must meet the requirements and satisfy the VO's that she would leave canada at the end of her visit. and oh, it's also an advantage of accompanying her to canada.. I wish you good luck for the TRV Application
