Visitor visa for a Syrian. Possible or impossible?

Hello guys. A friend of mine is doing master in orthodontics - he is dentist - in Phillipines and would like to apply for a visitor visa next year to do a short course (a week only) in Toronto. His concern is because he hold a Syrian passport and Canada might reject the visa. His family support his study there and would be his sponsor for this short trip. He really want to do this course. His master finish in Manila only in 2021. What do you guys think? I would like to find a lawyer with good experience with Syrians visa application. If you know any, please let me know. Thank you!

Possible but likely very difficult.

Does he have past travel to countries requiring visas such as the US or UK? Does he own property he can show as a tie? How much is he able to show in funds to support his visit?

Not sure I would spend money on a lawyer.

Why would he need a sponsor? For a dentist, he isn't earning enough? Maybe time to switch to a different career!

His past travel is for Asia countries only and I'm not sure how much fund he could have.

Will really depend if he has immigration status elsewhere and where he has been living for the past 10 years. If he has an established dentistry pratice somewhere his chances increase. Also may depend on whether he did his miitary service recently. There will of course be concern that he will claim asylum once in Canada.
