I am just about to submit my SO's visitor visa extension. Is there anything in specific I should include? Also, I see we can do the paper application or an electronic.. Any difference between the two? thanks!

You should include proof of your qualifying relationship, proof that you are submitting (or have submitted) an application to sponsor, and proof of financial support. I always suggest that you mail the extension application when it's necessary to include such proofs - and that you track the mailing and get delivery confirmation to prove that you submitted it so that it was received by CPC-V before the original status expired - which affords your partner "implied status" to remain in Canada until they make a decision on the extension.

Thanks for the reply. What would be suitable as proof of financial support? A letter from myself and a bank statement?

All I had was a letter. And I submitted mine online for my husband. Took 30 days and we got it in the mail :) (He's had two extensions now)

Thanks! Will do that then, seems much less complicated. Is there a way to attach a word document in the online application?

We did a paper application sent to Vegreville. It takes a lot longer to get, so you gain that much more of implied status while waiting. I sent along a letter of support stating I'll support my husband and send a copy of our joint bank account statement. They're pretty easy to get, we just asked for 1 year so he can stay with me while waiting for PR. We also sent our application by UPS 4 days before his status was to expire. As long as they receive your application before the date that your current status expires, it's all good.

Yep, when you apply there will be a upload button :) You'll also have to upload the receipt for the fee and a scanned image of the passport :)

Thanks everyone! I have been pretty nervous about this, but it doesnt seem like its too difficult. I will be crossing my fingers!

@ Parker, @ Belinsha how long did it take them to get back to you after you submitted the application?

Also, Parker how long did you ask for your extension to be for?

Howdy.

It's not that scary haha. I think the PR application is scarier to me :P

It took just over 30 days, I think 32 days when we got the extension in the mail. I asked for 6 months, and got it. Just make sure to say you're sponsoring him :)

Did you actually receive a one year extension??? :o :o :o

I did not even know that you could ask for more than 6 months at a time.

Yes, we requested one year and got it, no problems.

Thanks! We will do the same!

We asked for a year and got it in the mail today for 15 months. : )
