I am currently in Alberta (US citizen) and staying with my husband (Canadian citizen). I drove this trip and got the ninth degree. When flying, they barely looked at me but I spent almost 2 hours at the land crossing (with an empty lobby) and ended up with a Visitor Record expecting me to be out 5/26 (2 months after entry). Partially my fault I suppose as I have issues with numbers and messed up questions about birthdays and numerical addresses as well as I had already been here over Christmas/New years.
I applied for an extension almost as soon as I landed because we needed time to get things together for PR and I'm pregnant with a difficult pregnancy and need his assistance in even basic tasks. Plan was to stay here on extension until PR was done then clean up anything back home. We had just gotten everything together and were about to apply inland. Currently still waiting on that VR judgement however an emergency situation is cropping up. The place I am renting needs me out by the end of July. I do have an owned property in another state and this one was rented just for work so I'm not worried about not having ties, but this means I need to take a weekend with my husband, go pack up everything, and put it in a storage unit. A two-three day trip at best. Im trying to get the landlords to allow me to keep renting it out, even if it's a small price increase, but it's not looking to positive.
So my questions are around the visitor record.
-Should I just wait for that extension, I will have implied status until it gets here so I can stay for that but I do need to get this done.
-Does the VR cancel for such a short emergency trip? Or is that up to the agent? I'm considering flying back to the states to do this because it was much more pleasant the many times I've been to Canada before.
-I will technically have one month left of the 6 months I get as an American if I left this week. If I ride it out till the extension, have to leave...what options would I have for coming back if those 6 months are used and a VR on record?
-We've been heavily advised to wait on filing PR cause we are filing Inland and if I need to go to the US, even for two days, that will cancel out the application. Is this correct or should we go ahead and file as a show of good faith for returning?
I do understand this is all case by case and refusal is possible. Just trying to figure out what to do as my two plans are to drive back this weekend and then try to come back for 'one month' then apply for extension again. Or wait until closer to my move out, fly down and back, and cross my fingers that the officers are sympathetic. The biggest issue is I'll have used the 6 months given and am worried about getting readmitted because of it. May be just overthinking but that's what I do best.
