I am a Canadian citizen originally from Bangladesh. My elder brother is in Bangladesh and is 47 years old. He has a 15-year-old daughter. He is planning to come to Canada as a visitor first and then eventually transition to a worker. How plausible is that? What are the known trajectories for this sort of transition? He doesn't have any sort of Canadian credential to his name. He has a bachelor's degree in English literature but that was earned many years ago in Bangladesh. What sort of jobs can he look for?

You can't.

You'd need to qualify for PR immigration based on the Express Entry or other program to get in. At your brother's age, it would be hard to get enough points to qualify as an economic immigrant, and his education does not help.

If you find an employer willing to go through the effort of an LMIA and sponsor a foreign worker, you can't "transition" from a visitor to a worker. You need to apply separately and it can take months or even a year for that process.

Chances of success are extremely low. To convert to a work permit, he needs a job offer and approved LMIA. It's next to impossible to find employers willing to go through the LMIA process due to the cost, length of time it takes, and the fact that approval is not guaranteed. As part of the process, the employer has to spend money to advertise the job for at least a month to prove to Canadian could be found for the role. It terms of what sort of jobs should he look for - he should look for jobs in the field where he has strong work experience.
