Visitor Stay - Can I have car insurance?

I'm currently in Canada on a visitor's stay (applied online for an extension) and I"m allowed to be here until Jan 1st. I've also applied for my husband to sponsor me. Is there any way that I could get car insurance or get put under his? I'm applying for an open work visa and I would love to be able to drive to where I need to go, but to the best extent of my knowledge I would need American car insurance, but I left my car to my father in the states.

Please help, I'd rather not be walking to work when winter comes lol! 8)

Do you have a Canadian Drivers licence? Some provinces only allow you to drive on your foreign drivers lience for only 3 months. That would be your first step.
