I've submitted my application to extend my work permit (closed) prior to expiration of the pgwp permit. my employer also already submitted an LMO application. My CEC app is currently under process, at the 'medicals received' stage.

Question is...if my LMO comes back negative, is there any other status I can apply for in the meantime so that I can at least remain in Canada, even if I can't work? I know you can apply for a visitor visa, but for that, wouldn't you have to first leave, and then come back in to Canada in order to get a length of stay?

Also, in order to get a visitor visa, I'll have to submit my passport along with the application. So, if I get a passport request in the meantime, I'm potentially screwed. So basically, at this stage, the only thing I can do is apply for a work permit extension???

Any help, especially a link to the right form, will be much appreciated.

If the LMO is rejected, you can restore status by changing conditions of your stay to 'visitor'(not permitted to work). You do not have to leave Canada to apply. I believe holders of study or work permits can send applications for temporary resident visas to CPP-Ottawa.

If you submit your passport for the visitor visa and receive the passport request, you can send an email or letter to the visa office processing your visitor visa application to inform them of this and request that your passport be mailed back to you so you can comply with the request. You can decide at this time whether to withdraw your visitor visa application or allow it proceed and withdraw it after your receive the immigrant visa.

buddy wanted to know if u got ur visitor visa from within Canada..i am in the same boat as you were! Pls Reply..thnkz

You should then apply for the Bridging Open Work Permit

If your current permit is expiring within the next 4 months, you can apply.
It will give you an open work permit until your CEC application is processed.

Best of Luck!
