Visitor record extension application

Hello,

I have questions about extending my child's visitor record. My child is 5 years old and he entered Canada with a US passport and was issued a visitor record at the boarder. My current work permit and my child's visitor record will expire on 2024-12-31.
One month ago, I've applied for an extension of my work permit and received an WP-EXT only letter after submitting the application. At the same time, I've applied to extend my child's visitor record using the form IMM 5708. According to the IRCC website, my child should be able to legally stay in Canada while the application is being processed. However, I haven't received any document supporting his stay after current visitor record expires. I also got no request for his biometric fingerprint.
I'm wondering
1. Did I fill out the right form (IMM 5708)?
2. Is it normal not to received any document supporting his stay after the expiration while the visitor record extension application is being processed?

Perfectly normal to not receive anything when applying for visitor record extension. Once you get WP you should really be applying for a study permit for your child.

I initially learned that kids going to kindergarten with WP holding parents didn’t need a study permit, but now I see that getting a study permit can really make things easier.
