Hey guys,

Out immigration consultant informed us that it's fairly normal for a spouse to come visit their Canadian spouse after they submit the PRS application while the application is processing and pretty much just live in Canada in the meantime. Is this something a lot of people do? We were thinking about doing this but I was worried that it would be fishy when we tried to cross the border.

On that note, if we were to do this, would it be as important to show ties to the US? Would I be able to bring ALL my stuff now or should I just wait until my application is actually approved?

Also, how long after we submit the application would it take to show up in the system when they scan your passport at the border? I am asking because we would probably do this fairly soon after submitting all the paperwork to our consultant for him to actually submit the paperwork to whomever. So if we had the receipt of fees paid and a letter from our consultant on letterhead explaining the situation, would this be sufficient?

I am a little paranoid about crossing the border because I was denied entry once before (long story) so I want to make pretty sure that if I drive all the way up there I won't be denied again and have to turn back around. Any thoughts guys?

I appreciate the help!

I don't think there would be any problem for crossing the boarder but if you carry lot of stuff with you that could create an impression on you that you are not going to return. Otherwise you can stay until you are asked to submit your passport for visa stamping or up to the allowed period at the boarder which ever is earlier.

as much as you want to be with your spouse you also gotta remember that while there visiting you will not be working, have no health care and would be charged international rates to go back to school and so forth. if you are moving, good enough savings will be ideal because you dont want to burden your spouse..many people here talked about spousal resentment cause they are home all day cant get a job and so forth. so you may also want to look into volunteer activities that will help build your resume and keep you out of the house and occupied. :) volunteer activities do not pay but are a great way to network and keep busy. you can also wait for afew months after your application is in and then move across so it cuts down on the time you will be unemployed across there and hopefully cut into the waiting process and spend time with your hubby. this is the option i am thinking about choosing as we have been in process since june and i think we will get through in just a few months (crosses fingers) so i feel better about going up now..however still to make up my mind on that one.

I have planned on volunteering while I was up there, HoneyBird, and generally keeping myself busy. I am unemployed (and uninsured) right now in the US so it's not like it's a great economic loss for me to be unemployed in Canada. Especially since my job prospects in the US are abysmal and I will likely not have a job in the next four months even if I stayed in the US.

I'm just curious that if I do this, when I cross the border, will it still be important to show that I have ties to the US or is it enough to show that I filled out the application for PRS and that I am working on legally immigrating to Canada? Is there anything I should make sure I say to the border people or make sure I bring?
