Hello all,
I need advice about my situation.
I entered Canada (I am a US citizen) on 11 March 2020.
When I entered, my intent was to attend a conference thru Saturday 14, and then be with my fiancee (Canadian citizen) until Tuesday, 17 March. I would be returning to the US that Tuesday.
However, with COVID-19, I decided it was safer to stay with my fiancee than return back home with my parents (who are both over 70, in poor health). Also, this would allow me to stay longer with my fiancee.
As for work, I currently work remote/online with a US company - so my income is not an issue (at least in terms of making money).
The reason for posting is because I automatically thought I have 6 months as a visitor. However, reading online blogs, I am seeing some possible issues:
1) When I first crossed the border I originally thought I would be here for only 7 days, which is what I told the border patrol officer. So, I do not have an expiration stamp on my passport. But now it looks like I might be here for 6 months;
2) I am earning an income from a US company - I am not making any income whatsoever from Canada companies or people.
Should I notify someone of my situation to be sure my current status is fine?
I am currently applying for permanent residency (if that matters) and I do not want to cause any issues in the future.
Please advise me on my situation and if I need to be contacting anyone about my stay in Canada.
Thank you all for your responses and assistance.
