Hi, me again
This is porably impossible but I was curious. I've done most of the leg work but this puzzled me and I haven;t really found an answer I'm stsrting down the path for cmmon-law status ( we are saving money to bild a house and for the wedding so we are waiting on that), we want to get a place together. One thing they look for is 'integration' into each other's lives (as in joint bank account, being on each other's emergency contacts at our jobs, etc.) My question is as a vistor can I open a joint account with him? I have an I.D obciously but no SIN so how do they expect us to do that? (Note: he has an account in good standing with CIBC)

You can obtain an ITN (similar to a SIN) from CRA that can be used to file any necessary tax returns.

In my experience, Canadian banks will open an account for you as long as you have identification establishing who you are. Since your partner has an existing banking relationship, that would be the logical place to go. I'd be very surprised if you had any problems.

Good luck!

Do you happen to know where I'd go to obtain and ITN? I'll do it right off. I have an ID ( passport and photo ID also plus a social security card if needed. Much thanks. :D does CRA have a website or mailing address. I can do a search but I'd like to expedite the process if possible.

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pbg/tf/t1261/README.html - this is the ITN form.

http://ww.cra-arc.gc.ca is the CRA website.

Good luck!

Thank you you definitely made my day.
