Hi, I am English man married to a Canadian woman. We live in Taiwan and plan to immigrate to Canada. We have already made arrangements to move to Canada in October, but I doubt my PR family class visa will be completed by that time. We have no children.
If someone can enlighten me on what visa I need to apply for to visit Canada, I would be very grateful. A few questions: Would I be able to stay in Canada while my visa is being processed? Would I be able to go to Canada and then apply for a working visa when there until my application is being processed?
Thanks for the help!

1. Assuming you are holding a visitor visit exempt UK&C passport, you apply on line for an ETA. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/eta.asp
2. Yes, if approved, you can arrive as a visitor, it is possible at the port of entry, with a PR application pending, the officer may question you intentions.
3. No, you can't work .

Hi, so I have been approved for an eTA, and I will be travelling to Canada on October 31st under duel intention. My application is in progress and is being processed by the Hong Kong office. My query is that I don't have a return flight to England because I want to travel to the US once my application has been successful. Do I need to buy bus/train tickets to America to prove I will leave Canada if my application is unsuccessful?

It's in your best interest to have an airplane return ticket (refundable) as well as some proof of funds or ties to your home country.

Okay, I can buy a return ticket and show proof of funds. What would be proof off ties to your home country?
