Hi Folks,
I am new here and I need an advice -_-
I Live in Canada since 5 years /in Quebec/, Still PR though, My Girl Friend she is a resident in another country /Saudi Arabia/ with her family, Anyway the thing we are planning to get married soon, and we where discussing the visa problem in Canada, as the average processing time in the nearest Embassy is 23 months,

I was thinking if she can apply for a visit visa as tourist or Language student (French) and then when she come we can get married in Quebec, and she can stay with me until the process is finished! and she gets the PR -which I figer it is going to take lots of time- especially with the new procedures that the CIC is implementing!
Anyone can advise on this matter?

Cheers,
Tito

Dear Tito,

She can apply for a TRV and get married in Canada. Please note that new applicaants on or after 25th Oct 2012 will get a conditional PR only and the in Canad process is longer than outside canada. The other thing there is NO right of appeal in case of rejection. Just FYI.

Good Luck

Hello Tito,

What is your girlfriend's citizenship? She can also apply to the visa office of her country of citizenship.

There's a possibility of applying within Canada, but this can only be recommended if she has a study permit valid for about a year. If she has to leave the country before processing is finished, and isn't able to return, the application will be abandoned. However, she can apply for a work permit once stage 1 is finished, which takes about six months according to CIC.
