I am asking this question on behalf on my friend.
She came to Canada last year, she speaks very broken English, and does not have a work permit.
She brought everything with her from her home country and she has been renting an apartment in Toronto since start.
She is basically burning through her savings to pay for rent and food. I have helped her with two months rent already, but I don't have the ability to keep on helping her forever.
She doesn't even have enough money to purchase plane tickets to go back to her country now even if she wants. She only has a month left to try to figure out how to pay for her next month rent, and she has less than $200 left in her account.

Her visa is also expiring end of November, and I helped her to apply for visa record extension.
In her case, what options does she have...?

Her best option is to find a way to pay for a flight home. Perhaps she has family members or friends she can borrow money from in her home country.

The visa record extension will allow her to remain in Canada longer if it's approved but it won't allow her to work.

If money / ability to work is the issue, she really needs to return home. There is no financial assistance available to her since she is a visitor in Canada.

She should forget rent and out any money she can gather towards a plane ticket home. She won’t be able to get approved for an extension without any funds and given her limited funds she shouldn’t spend any of her money applying for an extension. What was her plan? She must have known coming to Canada as a visitor did not allow her to remain permanently.

One more thought... She can try reaching out to the embassy / consulate for her home country in Canada. It's possible her home country's embassy / consulate may be able to assist her in making arrangements to fly home. It's worth a try.

If she only has $200 at this point then the visitor extension has a very high chances of being refused and which point she will be in Canada without status.
