Hello everyone,

I just got my visa but it says that it will expire in June 2020 however my program will be finishing at the end of the year (Oct-Nov). I’m confused. Is this normal or a mistake? If yes then what should I be doing?

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

My details:
Medical: Completed in June 2019
Biometrics: Expires in 2029
Passport: Expires in 2029
College Start Date: January 06, 2020
Completion Date: October 30, 2020

When you start your classes. You can apply for extension like around February but definitely don't wait until last minutes. By march you should have applied to extend.

The validity of the TRV has nothing to do with the validity of your study permit, which will be issued by CBSA upon entry for the length of your program.

okay but if this isn’t normal then shouldn’t I just correct it before visiting Canada?

this is what I believe so far. However, TRV is required to travel in or outside Canada so I suppose I should never let it expire as there can be any emergency. Should I get it done before my visit or should it be taken care of after entering Canada? Thanks a lot for your help.

IRCC is not going to issue you a TRV when you have one valid for over 6 months. Apply for a new TRV a few months before this one expires.
