Hi all,
I have some very specific, yet possibly simple questions.
I am American, my common-law partner is Canadian (Quebec). We have decided to start the sponsorship process. Just to get it out of the way, yes I speak fluent Quebecois/French, it's my job. We've been together since 2006. We have no children together, he has two from a previous relationship. Since 2006, I have been going and staying for 6 months at a time, as allowed by temporary rules. My life is established there, I am integrated and familiar with Quebec society, my partner is dependent financially on me, as I am of him. We plan on marriage after he begins a new work position and he can take full custody of his children.
My first question- I am contract employee (technically self employed) for an American company that has a long-term contract with a major Canadian company (I've been working at this current position for 2 years, and am taking on a supervisory position in the next few months, so "long term" is the key word). I work remotely, from home or wherever I am (wonderful luxury!) and wanted to know if I need to apply for a work visa or if I can continue my job with no issues? There is absolutely zero about this anywhere in any immigration information.
2nd question- I was charged with (but never arrested for) simple assualt (I yelled at someone :
in 2005. The case was resolved in early 2011, with no conviction or charge against me and entered as nollo prosequi. So as my attorney explained, as if it never occured. From 2005 to 2011, I have travelled freely between Canada and the States, with the issue of it arising only once. So I have to make this information known on the application and if so, how? (I have the nollo prosequi order, as well as paperwork stating my file would be destroyed).
Last question- I was in Quebec from March of 2011 to August of 2011, at which point, we took a weekend trip back to the states and I was granted a three month extension for my stay (I was to be out by November 20th. I left November 17th). How long before I can go back to Quebec? It's very very difficult (emotionally) being away from my partner and his children.
Any input or answers would be GREATLY appreciated, as I am having a difficult time finding resources to answer my questions. Thanks in advance!
