I am starting this thread for all those PR holders out there who became Permanent Residents even though there was a Discrepancy between Occupation Title on WP and Duties performed (NOC Code mentioned in the economic classes form).

My situation: I have been in Canada from quite sometime and have been performing duties related to NOC 2171 during my entire stay in Canada but unfortunately, my first WP has the occupation as "Embedded Systems & Software Designer" and all the subsequent ones have "Computer System and Analysts". I recently came to know that "Embedded Systems & Software Designer" does not belong to NOC 2171. I have already sent the app form with NOC 2171 for my entire stay in Canada.

Whatever employer, client & supervisor letters, LMO related documents I have received state the NOC as 2171. So I thought that it would be a problem if I put a NOC just to match with the WP occupation title and really does not reflect the duties which I actually perform.

Please share your experiences.

Is your work permit open or closed? If it's closed, work other than what's on the work permit will not count regardless of NOC and letters.

Are you able to argue that "Embedded Systems & Software Designer" and "Computer System and Analysts" are the same thing or that it's natural for your employer to use the two terms interchangeably?

I am on a closed WP. It happened with many of my team mates that there was a wrong occupation title printed by the officer at the port of entry but was later corrected by my employer in the subsequent WP extensions. Also my first WP was exempted from LMO and was an ICT.

Case Officers have some discretion but from what I've seen so far, if CWP NOC doesn't match work performed there's a good chance it will not be counted and might result in rejection of the application.

I wanted to match the NOC code to the duties I perform and hence I put 2171 on the application. Is there a way I can send the updated application form by changing the NOC code?
