I've applied for Permanent Residence through Spousal Sponsorship. I sent my package of documents and the application together back in September. However, I just got a letter in the mail asking for a Police Certificate, which I know I have already submitted with my application package. This has me concerned, since the letter I received claims that I have 60 days to submit a police certificate. This is impossible from scratch, so I'm thinking that my application will just be denied and that I can't do anything about it. I'm hoping that this is just an error on part of CIC, but if not my hands seem tied. Can anyone shed light on my situation?

if you submitted the police record, then send a message to them advising the record was in the original package and ask if another one is actually needed. your application will not be rejected when you communicate with them and show them your efforts to comply. either you received the standard letter for the record request, as it is a normal part of the process, or the one you sent is considered expired. If the person is still in that country or has returned since that record was submitted, IRCC only considers it valid for 6 months.

if they need another record for whatever reason, then you can ask for an extension. it is a very common issue. it's when you don't respond to their requests and let the due date pass that risks your application. when you show them you are working to complete the request, they won't close your file.

It was, as mentioned above, either a standard request e-mail that is sent out or the one you sent it is expired. Had something similar happen with my application because I sent it all in at the same time. Definitely message / call them to clarify though!

I been trying to call them for hours, but the automatic machine always say the call volume is full and then it hangs up on me, making it hard to get a hold of anybody. Is there any other contact that I can get a hold of like email? I left a message for them on the cic webform but it said those messages would not be considered unless the application was past the regular processing time.

What you need to do is find out what timezone you are in compared to theirs and call them the MOMENT they open.

For example the office in Mississauga opens at 8am THEIR time, which happened to be 6am MY time. I just set an alarm for 5:30am, got up and called them at 6:01am.

Otherwise you just have to keep calling and eventually you'll get through.

The number I called was 613-944-4000.

I got that information from this thread:

ok, thank you for the advice. I will try to call it first thing when it open. But in the case that I still can't get through, I want other alternate ways to reach them asap

If you can't get through to them with calling, don't give up on the first try.

KEEP TRYING for up to an hour and then look at other options.

Your other option as CDNPR2014 said is to send them a message.

you will not be able to request an extension or get information about whether they have the copy of your record by calling the call centre. you need to send a message through the website. the call centre is not reliable, can't issue extensions or make any determinations about your file. if you rely on the call centre to do something, it is the same as not doing anything at all. just send a case specific enquiry.
