I'm planning out documents for a spousal application to be submitted sometime next year, and my fiancee is currently in her home country (she resides in another, and will apply inland in Canada next year) and I'm thinking about getting her to request a police clearance certificate, however, I'm not sure on the validity period of the clearance. If she gets the clearance letter now, we plan on applying within about 8 months.

The website about police clearance letters says that the validity period will be explained in the application guide for the program to which the application is made. I've scoured the basic application guide (IMM 5525) and the full application guide (IMM 5289) and they both just reference back to the generic information page about police clearances, and do not provide a validity period.

Anyone have any advice?

Not sure what country/countries your fiancee will need a police certificate for, but here's the link that'll tell you how to get it from any country: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...n/medical-police/police-certificates/how.html

I've clicked through a few countries to see if any of them had anything with regard to how long they're valid. No information given, unfortunately. The issuing countries may have some information though.

Seems like all you can do is check to see how big of a hassle it's going to be to get a police certificate for your fiancee and then go from there.

Thanks. I know how to get it from both of the countries in question, I was just wondering the validity time, and like you, can't find any indication.

Sorry about that. Hard to get a straight answer from CIC. I had to find out through the FBI how long my clearances were good for -- and I did a background check twice since I went back to the U.S. for a short period of time and it wasn't clear if my travel invalidated the first one. Bleh.
