Validity of Passport

Hi

I am planning to submit my application in Nov end (currently collecting the documents). My passport is going to expire in feb 2015. If i process the same for renewal now, my fear is i may miss the timeline to submit the application in this year. I looking for following information

1) Shall i go ahead and submit the application knowing that my passport is going to expire in next 5 months
2) Can i send the details of my updated passport once i receive the new one from Indian consulate after submitting the application to CIC
