Valid passport requirements for student permit

I have applied for college in Ontario for January2021 intake for a one year course. But due to the COVID delay in visa processing, I am yet to receive a PPR. So I am planning to defer to May2021 intake. But, the issue is that my passport expires on January 2022 which will cause my study permit to expire then which can be an issue later.
So, can anyone sugggest any soultions. Should I renew my passport now itself or only renew after receiving the visa?

You must renew your passport because it is mentioned in the "Passport request letter" that they cannot issue a visa beyond the expiry date on the passport. For a second opinion, you may ask a consultant also.

My doubt is if I renew my passport before getting approval, will it affect the visa approval process as I have submitted the old passport and passport number in every forms.
