Hello,

Currently, I have a student visa, study permit and work permit valid until 2014. I have a PR application is in process since I applied last November. I want to travel outside Canada for 1 week with my wife as a vacation to Cuba. I have heard many people saying that I may face trouble to re-enter Canada again since I have temporary visa. The police in the check point wants to make sure that I will leave after my temporary student visa expires, however, the fact I have family class immigration conflict with this fact.

Is it recommended to travel for 1 week vacation while the immigration is in process?

Thanks,
Little

i don't think it's a good idea. i'm in the same situation, and i know that if for some reason the officer at the border does not want to let me into the country again, i'll have to be apart from my spouse and have to re start the process again.

i personally wouldn't be able to relax in cuba knowing that i may not even be allowed back in the country... i would rather wait ( :'() than take risks!

Are you working, within the conditions stated on your work permit? We were advised (and did) carry a signed letter from same employer (specified on the work permit), confirming continuing employment there for both before and after the dates the employer allowed for vacation. Upon re-entry, CIC asked to see the 'work permit' and did not ask to see the letter.

I am a full time Grad student. I am not working but I registered as a full time student. The work permit I have is for 20 hours/ week only. However, I have teaching position in the University.

Ok, well not quite the same as us, but what I am getting at is if the University can give you a letter stating you have ongoing commitments there, then you should be fine with that.
