It wouldn't make much of a difference between Summers & Winters, 'coz either way u'd use the A/c, won't u? One - for cooling, while next - for heating.

Anyway Hydro has gone pricier, due to HST being added into your billing. Citizens r voicing their disgust/distress - let's wait & see if something better comes up. But, as of now, it's a killer - in any province.

if you're going to rent an apartment, most include heat and water in the monthly rent so those two are covered. you only have to worry about electricity which won't change much since you don't use it for heating or AC.

I live in Vancouver, we have a 3 bedroom duplex, one bathroom, one kitchen, one sitting room.

Currently, our monthly living bills (gas, electricity, telephone, water, cable and internet, insurance, local taxes etc) come to a total of $600 in total.

We pay monthly, this spreads the cost of higher bills in the Winter and allows us to budget our monthly income.

Wow. That's cheap. I just paid $645 for water alone, don't even want to mention other bills.

BTW, I live in Australia but thinking about moving to Canada in the next year or so.

WHen I saw the monthly costs for utilities, they seemed high, so I went back to check my costs when I last lived in Canada (2003). If I deduct property taxes (a high $6000 per year), utilities cost an average of $230 per month back then. I was heating and cooling a rather large house then.

So, have utility costs risen that much in the intervening 7 years?

*Bump*

We (Waterloo, Ontario) have 2-monthly Hydro bills, they go from $175 in Summer to $565 in Winter. So it looks like heating costst us a lot!
We use a mobile airco unit in Summer.
Our landlord put in new windows this Summer, I'm hoping they help to isolate the place and reduce the hydro bills a bit.
Seriously, this costs an arm and a leg in Winter!
I'm glad at least water is included in our lease ($700, 1 brm apartment).

We're in Alberta, and have only been here since May but we are currently paying around $70 each for electric & gas.
My sister (in a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath house) was paying on average about $160 each per month last winter
