Hello All,

I am interested in applying for a Canadian PR but have a couple of questions before applying for the same.

1. I am currently holding a US H1B visa which expires in April 2017 ( with one last extension for one more year permitted in April 2017 ). If I apply for a Canadian PR now, will it affect my chances of getting my US VISA extended ?

2. My friend was previously in the US on an L1B visa which expired and is now in India. She has plans of applying for a H1B visa next year. Now if she applies for a Canadian PR, will it affect her chances of getting the US H1B visa? Will the US CIS be like "Hey, this person is applying for both for a Canadian PR and US H1B. Let's not accept" or something like that ?

Both my questions are centered around the relationship (if any) between applying for Canadian PR while simultaneously either already holding a US visa (either H1 or L1) or planning to apply for a US visa. I would really be greatful if somebody could help as it is very critical for me to know the answers before I can even think of applying for a Canadian PR.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to hearing from you all.

No relation whatsoever. You can apply for anything you like at anytime!

Like the other poster said above, no worries there. Both H and L visas are nonimmigrant visas and are dual-intent visas. USCIS most likely won't care about the intent to permanently reside in Canada, if that issue even comes up. No need to overthink this. Best wishes to you and your friend.

Thanks MoosenBooze.. Relieved to hear this.. Wish I could up the rep for you guys but cannot see the option anywhere..
