I am a US Citizen working for an American company but I work 100% remotely. My partner lives in Canada and is in the process of getting his PR. As my job does not require me to be in a set location, I was planning to come up and stay in Toronto with him.
I understand US Citizens can stay in Canada for 6 months at a time but I'm curious to know what I might have to do to be able to help him with rent (can I be on the lease of our new place?) and possibly extend my visitor status (if I continue working for the US company, will my tax filing be affected)?
Additionally, if none of this is possible, will I be flagged if I return to the US after my 6 month visit and then comeback to Canada a few weeks later? I don't want to cheat the system in any way but I am not sure I'm able to get a visa when I am employed by an American company.
