US Citizen working Remotely For US Company while studying

I'm originally from California, but came to Canada (Quebec) two years ago to study for my MSc degree which I will complete this fall. I was just recently offered to work remotely for a medium-sized company in California as an Independent Contractor. This is the first time I'd be working remotely, as well as the first time working as a contractor. I'm really lost on how to proceed and was looking for someone who has dealt with a similar situation or could point me towards an agency that would be able to guide me.
