hello I’m a US Citizen (male) 20 years old. I will be attending college in Canada In January. I will be studying welding. I know that trade workers are in high demand, and I’m just looking for some guidance as to what route I could take to become a permanent resident of Canada. I want to do everything legally and have no intention of doing anything illegal. Please do not write on this post encouraging people to commit immigration crimes thanks.

No one here is going to encourage you to commit immigration crimes. Quite the opposite.

You'll most likely need at least one year of full time paid work experience to qualify to apply to immigrate. I would recommend you research the Federal Skilled Trades program as one option:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/trades/apply-who.asp

Also research the Provincial Nomination Program for whichever province you will be studying in:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/provincial/index.asp

Good luck.

Thanks Scylla. Maybe I could apply for a pgwp for 1 year? Would that qualify me?

Ideally you should complete a program in Canada that is at least two years in length. This will give you a three year PGWP. Generally speaking it tends to be quite difficult to get PR with just a 1 year PGWP since this doesn't give you enough time to gather the work experience you need. Most people with 1 year PGWPs don't find jobs immediately or don't start them immediately. As a result, they are unable to get the 1 year of full time work experience they need to qualify to immigrate. So a 1 year PGWP is not a good plan if PR is your ultimate objective.
