Hello Guys,

I am a US resident (GC holder) and my wife is US citizen. We are looking forward to move Canada on permanent basis. Regarding this we have following questions:

1. Do we need to attempt IELTS ?
2. How early our case can be processed ?
3. Do we get any preferences as my wife is dental assistant and have around 6 years experience in a US hospital further I have BBA / MBA degree from Pakistan. In fact both of our education is from Pakistan.

Your guidance will help us to proceed.

Zain

1. Yes - at a minimum the primary applicant needs to take IELTS
2. It's possible your application could be processed in six months. But you are still a very long way away from that if you haven't even take IELTS yet.
3. No preference.

Dear Scylla,

I am asking preference on the basis of US residents and US citizen. All over the world peoples are applying for Canadian immigration. So I am asking don't they prefer US citizen or US residents ?

On what basis are you intending to apply for permanent residency? As far as I am aware, the USA is given no priority for economic migration...

I am not sure if NAFTA covers certain work type visas.... http://www.canadaworkvisa.ca/info/nopermit.php

But yes - IELTS is required.

NAFTA won't give you PR status. This is what the OP seems to be enquiring about.

We am applying PR and my spouse is US Citizen. I am the main applicant and I have the IELTS not my husband. So, if you want to apply the PR, make sure one of you have IELTS. CIC does not care of the nationality but they do care your qualification. Seem to be ok in your case you can even apply for express entry I believe. .. Good luck!!
