2 years on my PGWP and all in NOC 1122. My application was well supported. Prior to my PGWP, I was on a Closed work permit and worked for a year. But that was more than 6 years ago. The request for the letter might have been an oversight. Already got my PPR, so I guess case officer was satisfied. :)

It'd be nice to know the real reason for the request! It sounds like your application was strong enough on its own. I guess these things happen though.

That's exactly why I ordered my GCMS notes to check if any reasons were provided. Another week till I get my notes.

Many people form their own company for contract work. Have to incorporate for that. Doesn't matter if it was for 24 hours or 5 hours. If it shows up in your NOA for 2013, it has be declared in the background information. If it is declared in the background information and the job was done in the last three years before application file, you will have to provide employment letter etc.

@HarryButtar: you don't really need to incorporate yourself (that is, get a BN) if you are self-employed, unless your earnings go beyond $30k annually.
Once you incorporate yourself, you need to charge GST/HST for your products/services, and remit these to the CRA, even if you earn less than $30k.
In other words, you will include in your Income Tax Return the income earned for the self-employed part plus remit the GST (again, if you are incorporated).

Completely agree with the above. In his case, since it was not an incorporation, he will have to say that it was part time work. He also got a T4, so that is an employment.

There seems to be some confusion here around incorporation as well.

Anybody who has a SIN number can get a Business Number to collect HST. You will be considered Self Employed and can operate a Sole Proprietorship or a Partnership.

However, to incorporate or start a corporation in Canada 25% of the board of directors need to be resident Canadians (Citizen or PR per the Corporation Act). For a board consisting of 4 or fewer people that is at least 1 person.

Bottom line, you can't incorporate on your own before permanent residency.

^Thanks and I agree.
I guess what I meant with "incorporate yourself" is that you register for a BN and a GST/HST as a Sole Proprietorship.

T4A is used for "Other income" and box 48 is for "Business Income". In your case it would be business income for your business (Sole Prop) and I would say CRA would consider it self employed income but can't say with certainty.

I just checked my cra online account.. It shows that 13000 amount as gross business income... I worked only on weekend about 24 hrs from july to dec 2013...my current job which comes in noc b .. I also started in july 2013 till now..so what shud i write about that 24 hrs work which i did on weekend.. As self employed or part time..

Does it show on your T4? If it does, you should change the background declaration form and send it to CPC asap.

Thanks for reply.
Yes..it does show on T4 and I submitted T4 when I submitted my apllication..
Do you think I should wait until I get something from CIC...

I will recommend not to wait for the VO to ask you about it. You never know if this could be a valid ground for rejection.
