Hi, I have an urgent inquiry. Your replies are highly appreciated:

My wife is here in Canada on a multiple entry 5 year visitor visa. She entered Canada on 19 September, 2016. So this Sunday will be 5 months in Canada and the following link says we should apply for extend at least 30 days before status expires:

my question is: does the status expires in 5 years or in 6 months?

worldwideweb.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?qnum=473&top=16 (i can't post links)

If you want to extend your stay in Canada, you should apply at least 30 days before your status expires.

do we have until Sunday to apply for extend? our extend request is not ready yet and it is getting close to deadline.

many thanks

6 months. If there is no date on the stamp, it's months. The 5 years is how long the TRV is valid, not how long you can stay.

Thank you for your reply. So we have to file for extend before Sunday. right? Can we file online on weekends? I want to know if we have until Friday or Sunday. thanks

Don't file before 30 days....anytime in the last month will do. Filing too early can sometimes result in it being rejected. Don't leave it too late either.

Hi, the link I put in my first post says the complete opposite of what you are saying. It clearly says at least 30 days before expiry !!! you are getting me worried :(

I just talked to an ex-lawyer. she says that the word SHOULD in that sentence is not obligatory and more suggestive. any input on that anyone? thanks.

She can apply up until the last day of her current status.
