Urgent!!! (I know you see this a lot, but this one actually is)

So to begin with I want everyone to excuse my incompetency that will be very obvious with my request.

I have a valid work permit till July 2015. I planned to visit my family in India and booked my tickets for 16th Jan and coming back Feb 5th. Today I realized that my work permit is not enough for a re-entry and I need a TRV

Should I cancel and lose a lot of money ?
One of my friends told me I can apply for one in Chennai when I get there. But is 3 weeks enough for me to get the passport back? Dont I need ot take medicals and all that?
Or is there a faster way to do this?

Help me make a prudent decision. Thank you.
 
I am not an expert, but have you checked that the TRV you got with your WP is not a multiple entry?
 
Yeah. It says "This document does not authorize re entry". I am just scared that a visa might be rejected or it might be delayed more than the time I planned to stay there. Looks like I might have to cancel the whole thing.
 
I guess my question really is it it tough to get a TRV ? (considering the fact that I do have a valid work permit, a job and a clean record) .
 
How hard was it to get the first one? In my mind I would think if there were important people or events you wanted to see at home and that was the reason for return it only reinforces your ties are still there. But.....,who knows how a VO thinks? I don't know if three weeks turn around is reasonable or not.
