Dear Experts,

I have just received a letter from CIC requesting for the following:

"RCMP Criminal Record Check: If your residence period in Canada has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide a certified criminal record check . In order to obtain this certificate you must submit fingerprints to the RCMP. This must be received at this office by: 2016/07/03"

Now the funny thing is,, I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO CANADA! And I am currently based in UAE.

So, how do I go about this one? Was it sent to me by mistake? Shall I submit a letter of explanation mentioning that I never lived in or visited Canada before? What sort of proof should I provide to support this?

Your kind help is appreciated as always.

Applying by yourself? Or spouse ?
Never visited as well?

Yes I'm a single applicant - no spouse.

Never visited.

I am confused as to why I have received such request ..

I am preparing a letter of explanation, will this clear the situation?

You will have to raise a cse and write an explanation letter (maybe post it here for some help or feedback from forum members) and attach copies of your passport. Hopefully, it is just a mistake on their part :)

There's a new upload field created for this request, so I'm planning to upload my LOE there. Is this ok?

You must proved oneself that you have never been to Canada before, you certainly need raising to CSE and upload all pages of passport along with letter of explanation.

All the best

Yes, I think you should be fine, as long as your information is correct and true.

Best of luck

Thanks all.

I have a new passport which was issued only last year so I don't think uploading all pages would be logical. Also I believe they can check in their system if I ever applied for a Canadian visa before without me having to prove it.

Am I the only one who have experienced this or is there anyone else who has gone through it? Appreciate your comments too.

Thanks again.

If they would've checked before, you will not have gotten this request. It will not hurt you in anyway if you upload all, this will just satisfy them.
It's your decision in the end.

Have you done any distance education from Canada? Or do you have any relatives in Canada who are added to your application for reference? Do you have criminal record (arrest/ticket) in any other country (mostly UK, US, Aus, NZ, etc.)?

No distance education or criminal records. I DO have a relative in Canada and I did mention him in my application. BUT his name was not mentioned in this request. It was only addressed to me.

You could also include copies of your old passport :P

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED - STRANGE RCMP REQUEST

Hi All,

I'm still wondering if anyone else has experienced the same? I uploaded the LOE mentioning that I've never been to Canada before and I attached copies of old and new passports. I also contacted the visa office via email but still haven't received a response yet. Should I submit a CSE too? Getting anxious as the deadline is approaching and I'm worried this might affect my application in a negative way ...
