It feels almost like a nightmare situation right now.

We just recently moved, and I misplaced or lost my COPR and PR card in the middle of the move. I know I’ll need one of those for my Oath Ceremony, and I’m scheduled to take my citizenship test next month.

What would be the best course of action here? Should I request a Verification of Status, or apply for a new PR card?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you want to travel abroad you would need a PR card. It's also needed during oath. As you lost it you will need a solemn declaration. Oath email has that info.

Update Jan 28th 2025

-

I received my citizenship certificate on January 24.

After receiving the invitation to attend the oath ceremony, I noticed a section regarding the loss of a Permanent Resident (PR) card before the ceremony. It stated: "If your Permanent Resident card was lost, stolen, destroyed, or never received, contact us as soon as possible. Complete a Solemn Declaration form and return it to us at this email address immediately (not at the Sydney, Nova Scotia address listed on the website)."

To address this issue, I only needed to submit the Solemn Declaration. Although I had obtained a Verification of Status (VOS) document as a precaution, it was unnecessary. If anyone else finds themselves in a similar situation, I hope my experience can help alleviate your concerns.
