HI,
I AM A STUDENT AND I HAVE GOT OFF CAMPUS WORK PERMIT AND MY WIFE CAME IN A DEPENDENT VISA AND SHE HAS GOT FULL TIME WORK PERMIT. MY STUDY PERMIT AND HER FULL TIME WORK PERMIT IS GOING TO EXPIRE VERY SOONER AND WE HAVE TO RENEW BOTH. WHEN I GOT INTO CIC WEBSITE, IT WAS SO EASY THAT I CAN EXTEND MY STUDY PERMIT AND MY OFF CAMPUS WORK PERMIT. BUT I GOT STUCK WHEN I WAS FILLING THE APPLICATION FOR MY WIFE, TO EXTEND THE FULL TIME WORK PERMIT.
While filling the online application, one of the questions is Do you have a written job offer? Well she came in as a dependent visa with open work permit and she is working in low profile job. She does not have any written job offer letter from any employer. So, I answered as NO to that question. Once I answered NO, the application conts and later is showed me to fill the PDF application which is (Application for temporary resident visa made outside Canada (IMM5257).
I don't know which application I have to use to extend my wife's full time work permit.
Can anyone please help me in specifying the application form, which will be used to extend full time work permit.

Thanks,
Siva

Hi,

Actually this is not a reply for this question, but I am also in this same situation. So have you extended your wife's open work permit? How did you do that? Please help me. I am an international student and my student visa expires on 31 July 2014 and my husband's also will expire the same day. But he has a permanent job now but no LMO. I will get Post Graduate work permit for 3 years. But how can I extend his open work permit? PLEASE HELP ME.......

Once you have a post graduate work permit you need to have a skilled job before your husband's open work permit can be renewed.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. So if I don't have one offer letter, my husband's open work permit cannot be extended?? Can he do on his own as he has a permanent skilled job offer??

As scylla said, if you don't have a skilled job, your husband's OWP cannot be extended. See this page http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who.asp

Your spouse or common-law partner may be able to apply for an “open” work permit. This is a permit that will let them accept any job with any employer if:

You are
- approved to work in Canada for six months or longer,
- doing work in Canada that meets a minimum skill level (usually work for which you need at least a college diploma) and
- doing a job at Skill Level 0, A or B in the National Occupational Classification.

Note: If you have a post-graduation work permit, your spouse must attach a copy of your work permit to their application for an open work permit, as well as a:
- letter from your current employer that confirms you work there, or a copy of your employment offer or contract, and
- copy of one of your pay slips
.

To apply on his own, his employer would need to get an LMO.

If you don't have a skilled job and his employer doesn't get an LMO, your husband will need to change his status and extend his stay as a visitor to remain in Canada beyond July.
