URGENT-Crossing the U.S to renew a visitors visa?

Hello! This is urgent so please respond as quick as you can with your expertise!

My friend has a visitors visa for 6 months, he is from Chile, and he wants to stay for a few more months, can we cross the border to Buffalo New york and upon re-entry to canada get a new visitors visa? Are we crazy to even try this plan?

He has to leave by june 4, it is already may 13, if we apply online to renew it, and it takes longer to process then after june 4, will we still be in the clear for those days while waiting a response of either yes or no?

Please help us out guys!

Border runs can be risky. He may not be granted a longer stay.

Better to spend the money and apply for an extension from within Canada. As long as he applies before his current stay expires, he will be on implied status until he hears a decision on the extension and can remain in Canada.
