Dear all,

I applied to extend my temporary residence visa in May 2015 however I decided to leave the country in June before I heard back from CIC.(I travelled around the USA for 4 weeks until returning to my home in the UK in late July).

I handed in my paperwork at the visa office in the Canadian airport and assumed that this would automatically tell CIC I had left the country and cancel my application. Anyway I am now worried because CIC continue to send me messages and recently one stated that my application was denied and I must leave Canada by September 25th or action will be taken.

I already left 4 months ago!? I am at uni in the UK! Why do they still think I am in Canada and what's going to happen to me?

I can't find any way of contacting them from outside of Canada and I'm panicking in case they put me on record now.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated please!

THANK YOU

CIC has anything todo with keeping track of people who are staying or leaving Canada (CBSA keeps track of such entry or exits). As you applied for a visitor extension, so CIC has to process it (thinking you are still in canada) and send you the outcome of the application and thats what you have received the generic letter of your application outcome/decision and as your extension is denied so they have also mentioned/advice you to leave Canada before September 25. Nothing is automatic here in canada..:)
you didn't mentioned about your visa expiry date? did you lived in canada once your visitor status (allowed time to live in canada) was expired or you left before it expired?

Most probably CIC must have send your application decision to CBSA also and if CBSA already know that you have left canada then nothing to worry about BUT still you may be pull to secondary on your next trip to canada.

your course of action can be:
1) keep records of your exit from canada safely for any future references.
2) send a copy of your entry to USA and UK to your friend/relative where you stayed in case CBSA try to contact you at that address for the deportation process. and CBSA can be informed at that stage with proofs.
3) you can directly try to contact CBSA and inform them about your situation.

hope it helps

Reply to the email that they sent you and explain. Or send a register letter the office where you applied for the extension. Don't let this get that far that Cbsa Gets involved.

You need to send a response to CIC with all details and evidence of your exit and Keep a copy.Something like this happen to a friend once and he was asked for evidence of contacting CIC to inform them of the details
