Urgent advice needed - I have a medical problem!

I am living with my darling boyfriend here in Canada for nearly 6 months now and we have applied for an extension of my visitor status, as the first step in the process for PR. However in the last couple of weeks I have developed a 'female' medical problem. I took 'long trip' travel insurance before I came over, but it was only for 6 months and it's up very soon. I may have to go back to the UK for an operation as I'm not covered over here.

Please advise me - will I lose my application if I leave Canada? I could be over in the UK for a couple of months waiting for treatment etc. My boyfriend can't stay with me as he needs to be here in Canada.

MY OPINION IS THAT YOU TALK TO THE IMMIGRATION AND EXPLAIN YOUR CASE TO BE TRANSFER TO OUTLAND APPLICATION, EVEN IS YOU HAVE TO RE-APPLY, YOU WE'LL BE BETTER;
1. OUTLAND SEEM TO BE FASTER THAN INLAND
2. YOU ARE FROM A VISA EXEMPTION COUNTRY, THAT MEANS YOU CAN VISIT YOUR PARTNER ANYTIME
3. YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE COVER IN UK, HERE IN CANADA WILL BE DARN EXPENSIVE FOR YOU GUYS,

Is there no way of extending your health insurance coverage or renewing it?
If you are still covered now you should see a doctor here, if you havent already. Then assess if its necessary to go back to the UK for further treatment.

Having to go back to UK for a couple of months could reset the clock on your PR application?
When you do apply for your PR (I assume you intend to apply as common law?) you could explain the 2 month break and send proof of the medical issues. Just make sure that you have actually lived together for more than a year, not including the time you may have to spend away. It would probably be ok, as long as you can prove everything!
Who knows, you might even decide to marry further down the line.

Obviously, the most important issue here is your health, you should put that before the PR application.

I don't think the OP has applied for PR yet. Instead, she and her partner are waiting to build up the 12 months of living together required to be classified as common law and submit a PR application. I believe the OP is asking what will happen to her visitor visa extenstion if she leaves the country. Colleen - if this is what you are asking, then the extension to your visit visa will be invalidated as soon as you leave.

I thought short absences were allowed, visiting family etc.
A medical emergency could be explained and proved with ease. I'm not sure that being away from her partner would instantly invalidate the 12 months needed to acquire common law status.

Colleen asked 'will I lose my application if I leave Canada?' I believe she is referring to the application to extend her visit visa ('we have applied for an extension of my visitor status'). If so, the answer is yes - the application to extend will be invalidated/lost as soon as she leaves the country.

yeah you could be right. In this case then yeah she would, you're right. But like you said, since she is from a visa exempt country, once she comes back to canada then she should be given another 6 months visitor visa. No guarantees though!

Yes Scylla, I am worried about the application to extend my visitor status, in order to reach the 12 month period, so then my partner will be able to apply for the right to sponsor me. But as you say, I will lose that as soon as I leave the country and then have to start again when I come back.

I am worried about the health issue for sure, and want to get it settled. I have medical insurance until 28th may and I talked to the company this morning, and while they will renew my cover for another 6 months, they won't cover this problem in the new policy as it will now be considered 'A pre existing condition'. So it still leaves me with the problem. So I looks like I have no where else to turn.

It will break our hearts to be apart ... I know that for sure

Its tough, I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you.
While the visitor extension will be cancelled after you leave, as soon as you return you will probably get another 6 month visitor visa. And you may still be able to count time you've already lived together towards your ultimate goal of 12 months to become common law.
Its hard to be apart, especially if you're unwell, but stay strong and you'll get there in the end.
