Hello All,

Just submitted my e-APR today, but i just noticed that my PCC upload is over 4 MB (I read somewhere on the forum it cannot be over 4MB?).

It's 4.2 MB but it got accepted by IRCC (the document shows green and said it's uploaded)

Has anyone encountered this before? Do I need to raise a CSE to provide a new PCC?

Please advise :( ???

That's weird! But since you were able to submitted and has shown uploaded (provided), hence you should be fine.

I know right?!

But i noticed if i right click the file and select "get info", it says the size is 4.2MB, but if i open the file first, and then click "properties", it says the size is 3.99MB. I dont know why its telling me two different size when its the same document.

But yes its shown as "provided" on my application like you said. I hope this wont cause any problem.

1 kb = 1024 bytes
1 mb = 1024 kb
4 mb = 4194304 bytes

So depending on whether a computer shows you the size based on bytes or MB calculation, you would either end up with 4 MB or 4.19.

Since your numbers seem to reflect that same difference, that is my guess.

So it could show 4.19 mega bytes and still be 4 MB.

Agree with Andre_Smol, it could be possible.

Also, in addition to the suggestions above, on computers there are often 2 sizes reported. One is the actual size of the file, and the second is the space that file actually takes up on the disk. This is because data is stored in blocks, and if part of a file only uses part of a block, the rest of the block is dormant, in short: space used on disk is often larger than the actual file.

Someone with a bit more knowhow could explain that better than me FYI, I dont know the technicals and could be 'slightly' wrong. but thats the idea.

I think you are right.

When i open the file and click "properties". It says the size is 3.99 MB (418xxxx bytes) which is less than 4194304 bytes like you mentioned in the equation above.

Hopefully this will not be an issue.

Thanks Andre!

So i guess you are saying as long as its uploaded as green on IRCC i should be alright then?

As long it shows in green font, as submitted, it means its accepted even 4.2 MB, why to worry unnecessarily

Thats the theory. If the CIC site has been coded correctly... But we might never know. Who knows, it might say its fine, but the file could be corrupt. Sorry, from a tech developers perspective, no-one could give you a certainty that its fine, it totally depends on what checks are done for that "green" flag to appear.

Should be fine.

The file was accepted so nothing to worry about.

Based on your numbers, you managed to create a file that is amazingly close to 4 MB, thats quite an achievement in itself ;)

Maybe IRCC should approve my application right away ;)

ok at least I know that if they later claim that they haven't received my documents, i can argue that it's shown as green and as provided.

Hopefully they will send document request if they cannot open it, not rejecting right off the bet.

Thanks for your professional input!

I accidentially tried to upload a larger file when getting my documents together and it was clearly not accepted. Your file uploaded successfully so I dont see any reason to believe that they wouldnt receive your file.

Good luck with your application. Hope you get it approved quickly.

Take a screenshot maybe with the date and time showing in it from Windows / Mac clock. Just ideas...
