So as you can see my permit states the above. I'm studying at George Brown and have work lined up because of what the CIC website says. I've spoken to someone at my school and they said I have to get an amendment to my permit!!!! Is this correct or do I just need the school's permission to work so I can get a SIN. Please help

If you're authorised to work , Your work permit will have a not below stating that " May accept employment from a Canadian Employer after procuring SIN " . You'd have to amend your work permit if this piece of info is not there . Amending takes a long and if you're for your masters degree , You might as well not amend and apply for a work permit in 2 years .

I have a study permit. I'll have to drop out if I can't work. The course is only 8 months long

you can ask CIC to amend our student by mail. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp
It doesn't take long, don't worry!

Are you talking about co-op/internship that you have to complete in order to graduate from your current study program?

If yes, then you have to apply for a co-op work permit.

Otherwise, you can work off-campus upto 20 hours while studying and full time during seasonal holidays ( if you are full time student a recognized college or university)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp - Forgot to attach this link (check for more details)

My study permit had the same thing but I got confirmation from CIC which they don't issue anymore.

this is only true for study permits which state u can work .....if ur study permit is old before june 1 , 2014 and says u cannot work then u have to get it amended before u r allowed to work or else u wont get SIN.
