So. I have come to this website because I am completely at a loss. And I have never done any of this before. So I am incredibly lost, regardless of reading the available forums. Both him and I are naive to all this, so be gentle :oops::oops: If you can, we are open to learning as much as we can.

So here goes; this may get personal so bare with me.

Both my boyfriend and I have been dating for 7 months now, however he has been my Online-Best-Friend since may of 2012. My boyfriend wants to start a life together with me in Canada, however, we are not sure how this can be achieved given my life situation. I just hit 29 this year, but unfortunately have been unemployed for a long while due to mental illness, however I have been making efforts to apply for Academic Upgrade, and attempt to get into a career in Psychology. I will only be able to volunteer at this time. So no paid employment for a while.
My Boyfriend however, has an Honors Degree in Engineering more specifically 'Robotic and Mechatronics', he works in Electronic repair, and has been for 3 years now. He is a British Citizen and has been his entire life, and currently resides in England.
He wishes to move to Canada, this is his goal in the next year. But, this is where things get complicated and we are not sure what to do. :(
He wants to move to Canada to live with me and be with me and get married, however because of my life situation. My mother is my supporter and she has been since my battle with mental illness started, and I am living with her through my recovery phase. I also have ADHD, which has made employment difficult, so this is why I am seeking out schooling, and volunteering.
So my questions are these, what are my boyfriends options, given my life situation is quite disadvantaged, and complicated?
Could he still move to Canada, and be with me or live with me at all, in any shape or form, such as renting a room in my families house?
Should he simply apply for permanent residency? would me and him still be able to get married and live together?

My apologies if I got too personal, I just don't know what to do at this point. :(
I hope there is a solution to our situation. Because I want this to work.

I suggest that he apply for permanent residency through Express Entry so that he can work while he is in Canada and support you if he really is serious.

There are other options for you both after you get married, but IMO, Express Entry is the fastest and doesn’t require you to get married just yet.

Thank you so very much, I felt so lost. <3 I appreciate what you have expressed and will give this a try. Again. Thank you so much.
My apologies, but what is IMO?

Depending on your boyfriend's age, he can try applying for an IEC/Working Holiday Visa program that would given him an open work permit and allow him to work and live in Canada for 1-2 years. There are a limited number available and people are selected through a random draw. So no guarantee he would be picked - but he can try.

He turned 27 this June passed.

I hope there is a solution to our situation. Because I want this to work.

Here are your options:
1. to marry him and to go for spousal sponsorship.
Advantages: no need to worry about if he will have enough points, no need to worry about financial or medical inadmissibility for him. Once the sponsorship is done, he can come to Canada as a PR which gives him more options to get work (some employers do not like to hire temporary visa owners).
Disadvantages: You cannot be on social welfare (but you can be unemployed or have a low income). You will be responsible for him (if the relationship will go south and he will claim social support, then you will have to pay for it for first few years). You will be asked lot of intimate questions about your private life (including those about sexual life with him).

2. For him to apply for EE
Advantages: It will be just his effort and his only. So nobody will go after you if he messes up. No private life questions asked (as in this case you would not even exists in the file).
Disadvantage: It is more expensive and more time demanding (why, because of those additional documents like his language test, education ECA and others). He has more ways how to be inadmissible (for example medical inadmissibility, wrong calculation of his immigration CRS points). He might never get it (if his points are too low to get ITA).

So from your point of view second option is much better (and safer for you). While from his point of view first option is better.

Additionally he can go for a temporary stay like work holiday (but attention it is a lottery and not all that apply will be invited to send the documents).
But this option will give you both some time to live close together and get know each other better. So you can decide if you want to use option 1 or not.
