Hi
I am an electrician from Scotland looking at moving to Canada and was wondering if there is anyone out there who can help me figure out the application process. I have just started looking at the Canada government website and cant quite figure out the route best suited for me.
I have a lot of questions but if there is anyone who has been through the process recently it would be great to hear from you and get some advice.

My main questions at this time are-

Do I need to do a language test?
Do I need to do the Red Seal exams prior to applying?
Do I need a job offer and if I do at which stage?

Hopefully someone out there can help. Thanks.

Possibly more likely to get a more comprehensive reply in a UK biased Canada forum, just saying

1)Unfortunately everyone even native English speakers needs to take IELTS
2)Personally do not know for sure but do not think required for immigration application but assume required to work so any additional qualification can get upfront helps.
3)Obviously helps but very difficult to get a job offer from outside Canada so check first what CRS points you could get for express entry without a job and check your NOC for your job is classified a 0,A or B which would expect it to be..

Thats great thanks. Ive posted in the expats forum.

The impression I get from what I've read (though its not crystal clear and I feel I'm going round and round doing laps of the internet)is that I would need to have a job offer and that to get a job I would need to be Red Seal certified. The immigration website implies that once I submit an express entry application I would be given access to a job search site. My understanding then, and this could be wrong, is that once in the express entry pool I could be invited to apply which would then mean I have a time limit to lodge my application to immigrate through the Federal Trade route. This route appears to require that I have a job offer in place? Am I on the right path? Its a bit confusing at this stage!
