UK CITIZENS REFUSED ENTRY TO CANADA

I am a British Citizen and intend to visit Canada to attend a seminar and spend the Xmas with family. I have heard and read about many British citizens being refused entry into Canada. I like to prevent this kind of embarrasement and distruption to my vacation plans. Can anyone advise how to prevent this kind of embarrassment?

I am willing to apply for a visiting visa here in the UK if this will vert this kind of treatment. Pls advise.

You can apply for a visit visa if you want to and that will help avoid this type of problem. Make sure you have a return ticket. Bring proof of your seminar and a letter from your employer stating that they are sending you and fully expecting you to come back from your trip.

The most common reason to be denied entry I assume would be because you look like you might be intending to overstay or work illegally. Such signs could be bringing a large amount of luggage for your intended stay, not having a return ticket, bringing important documents, bringing copies of your CV, bringing obvious work related items, working clothes, tools etc. and not having a job at home to go back to that you can prove. Also being evasive when the immigration officers ask you questions. Same if you show up saying you are coming for a vacation but having no funds and no hotel booked, they can send you back for that too.
