Hi, I am a UK citizen but currently living in Australia on a working holiday visa and have been for about 14 months.

I have met my Canadian Partner about a year ago in Australia and hope to enter Canada in or around June time with the ability to work there but will need to obtain a Visa first. I am already in the IEC pool but chances look quite low at this point. What are my other options?

For now I only need a temporary visa as we will not be settling there permanently yet, could people let me know what my options are and if there is a way I can obtain a Visa through my partners citizenship.

Thanks!

If you're married or in a common law relationship, you can apply for permanent residence. You could get permission to work in 7-12 months if you apply outside Canada.

Otherwise, IEC gets you working.

There is no official working visa for a partner (or even spouse) of a Canadian.

To apply for inland spousal sponsorship (so the common law partner/spoouse becomes a permanent residence), one can apply for a temporay open work permit on the side. (but that's not the actual purpose of the application. it's to allow the applicant to work while waiting for the PR application to be approved.) I do no recommand goinig this route unless you planned to permanently settle in Canada. (or at least for a few years)

You need to live in Canada with your spouse/common law partner while applying for the PR and the OWP (open work permit) usually comes in about 4 months. So no work for the first few months.
