So, long story short, basically I have been a visitor within Canada for 4 months and I am due to leave at the end of January and my 6 months is up.

But I have been applying for the visa so I can stay and work here, I just need to re-enter Canada on my visa grounds when I finally have it, everything was going well with my application until today, when a spanner got thrown in the works, I was in a rush and I left a store in Canada with a candle under my arm, which I didn't pay for, I paid for everything else, I just forgot about that one item, a woman chased me out of the store and told me I was under arrest for shop lifting, at first I was really confused and she pointed the candle out to me and I laughed explaining I'd forgotten but she still wanted to speak to me, and basically it was her job as security to prosecute anyone that left the store with an unbought item it seems, and she was on a massive power trip. In short - I now have a police warning for shoplifting. Completely unfair, completely undeserved, but it is now on my record and I have accepted that.

I didn't sign anything and I didn't have my fingerprints taken, I just had my details taken, my identity confirmed and my address taken from me, I'm not sure if it's going to show up because the police officer seemed to like me and went easy on me it seems. But I'm still going to tell the truth regardless.

I know that this may affect me re-entering Canada when I do, I just wanted to know if there was anyone out there who had a similar experience to me at all? I know when I get to immigration it's going to look terrible as I 'committed' an offense A) within Canada and B) super recently. But it was only a warning and there are conditions to which I can explain when I arrive in customs, I just hope they're understanding about the whole thing.

I love Canada and I would never disrespect this place intentionally. I just got some awful luck today :(

1. As there are no "cautions" as you know it in the UK in Canada, you have nothing to worry about.
2. You were neither arrested nor charged.

You shouldn't worry about it, they person who apprehended you was just a security guard. And it was a legit mistake, you stopped cooperated and thats the most important thing
