UNIQUE CLIENT ID

The Client ID (xxxx-xxxx with all numerals for x) is NOT the same as the file/application number. See this page: https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/redir.do?app=ecas&lang=en&redir=id_num

So is that the only Identification Number these guys use/send now?

I ask this because when I applied for my wife, they sent me my client ID, my wife received her immigration file number and also her client ID(from CAIPS).

The main two numbers CIC deals with are the client ID (xxxx-xxxx, all digits) and the file/application number (starts with B or F, followed by 9 digits). You have a Client ID the moment you have any dealings with CIC, so if the PR app is your first business with them, you would have it assigned at the time they approve the sponsorship and transfer it to the VO. I ordered GCMS notes (the descendant of CAIPS) and only recall seeing my Client ID on one line in the whole document. However the file number was at the top of each page.
